About us

Linguit's mission is to develop, market and support advances in natural language processing.
For this purpose, the company was founded in 2005, in Edinburgh, Scotland, by a group of PhD students graduating from the University of Edinburgh. More people have joined since then.

Maciej Zurawski

Maciej Zurawski is a researcher in knowledge management and engineering. Co-founder of Linguit, he is also pursuing a Ph.D. in informatics at the Articifical Intelligence centre (CISA) at the University of Edinburgh with a focus on distributed knowledge management. His research interests include knowledge infrastructures, ontology management, reasoning and distributed knowledge-based systems. He is a Marcus Wallenberg Foundation for Education in Industrial Enterprise scholar and holds a master's degree in engineering physics from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, specializing in systems development and AI. Maciej has worked as an independent IT analyst for various Swedish energy companies. He has studied studied business economics for one year. At Linguit Limited, he is responsible for all aspects of product management.

Tiphaine Dalmas

Tiphaine Dalmas, PhD, is a language technology engineer and software developer. She is a co-founder and the current head of technology of Linguit Ltd. She completed her Ph.D. in open-domain Question Answering at the University of Edinburgh in 2007, and holds a DESS (M.Sc.) in AI from the University of Paris VI in 2003. Previously, she obtained a License and Maîtrise in NLP from the University of Paris VII. Her primary education was in Classics at the Sorbonne. She has a strong industrial experience, and implemented several QA systems, including state-of-the-art TREC and CLEF QA evaluations as well as a patent-pending mobile QA service.

Jochen Leidner

Dr. Jochen Leidner is a co-founder and Non-Executive Director of Linguit Ltd. He also holds the position of Research Scientist at Thomson Reuters Corporation. He is a computer scientist and a leading expert in information extraction and question answering.
In the past, Dr. Leidner has held positions as Research Associate in the Spoken System Groups (LSV) at Saarland University and Research Fellow in the University of Edinburgh, where he was also Principal Investigator of the project 'mobile search in natural language'. He has also worked as a software developer at SAP AG's basis technology group, and holds a M.A. in computational linguistics, English philology and computer science from the University of Erlangen, Germany, an M.Phil. in computer speech, text and Internet technology from the University of Cambridge, England, and a Ph.D. in informatics from the University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
In 2006, he has been awarded a Royal Society of Edinburgh Enterprise Fellowship in Electronic Markets for his idea of how to simplify Internet search from mobile devices. Dr. Leidner, who is co-inventor on several patent applications, and who has co-authored numerous peer-reviewed papers, has been a regular invited speaker, and frequently serves as reviewer to conferences and journals by learned bodies like ACL, ACM and SIGIR. He is a member of ACM, SIGIR, ACL and IEEE and recipient of over a dozen of awards and scholarships, including the ACM SIGIR Doctoral Consortium Award 2004. In his spare time, he is an active supporter of The Ring, the University of Cambridge's alumni organization for computer scientists and several non-govermental aid organizations.
